The Barite roses formed when Barite crystals precipitated from groundwater in the pore spaces between quartz sand grains within the sandstone. Cherokee folklore is that the tears of the Cherokee women and the blood of the Cherokee men fell in drops to the ground and formed stone roses as they walked The Trail Of Tears through Oklahoma. These are large Barite Rose rock specimens.
This specimen is the Oklahoma state stone.
