Cathedral geodes are a fascinating member of the quartz crystal family. Most excellent Amethyst geodes come from a region along the Brazil-Uruguay border. The geodes are mined from several lava flows belonging to the Parana Continental Flood Basalt Province. This was one of the largest outpourings of basalt lava known. An estimated 800,000 cubic kilometers of lava extruded over an 11-million-year time span. All "Citrine" cathedral geodes sold are heat treated Amethyst. Citrine does not naturally grow in the form of a geode.

As with all rock specimens, there are no two exactly alike. Once it is sold, please do not ask us to find one exactly like the one that sold. That is impossible. Amethyst Care: Prolonged exposure to sunlight will gradually fade Amethyst. Use a feather duster or a slightly wet, light cloth to wipe each cluster.
