This is a beautifully hand-carved Elephant figurine, and it is carved out of Soapstone. This Soapstone is a red and beige color, and the elephant's eyes are a bright green. An elephant with the trunk up is considered to be lucky.
Soapstone can be found in a number of different colors, as a result of the minerals that have mixed with it. Green and pink soapstone are very common in China, and black soapstone can be found in Russia.
