Bumble Bee Jasper is a vibrantly orange, yellow, and black material that is actually formed from a mixture of Indonesian volcanic lava and sediment. It is a carbonate-rich rock that was first discovered on the island of Java during the 1990's.
Bumble Bee Jasper is a soft stone, with a Mohs hardness of 5 or below. This porous rock is easy to cut and polish. This stone is a combination of volcanic matter, Anhydrite, Hematite, Sulfur, and Arsenic. Safety in finished pieces: Polished, intact display pieces or jewelry are generally considered safe to handle under normal conditions.
The lovely patterns on this stone are very similar to what you will find on a bumblebee insect, hence the name. The yellow color in this stone is due to Sulfur, which is toxic, and arsenic; please wash your hands after handling.
