How is nephrite jade carved? Nephrite jade is carved by hand using a rotating diamond blade that is kept wet with running water. Grinding the carving into shape takes long hours of patience. Once smooth, the diamond compounds buffs the jade to a high polish. Properties of nephrite jade: Nephrite jade is a tough, translucent, smooth, and cool to the touch. Jade has been credited with preventing disease and of increasing longevity. It is recognized as the gem of Alaska, the Yukon, and British Columbia.
