Small and beautiful Herkimer Diamond Necklace. Herkimer diamonds are double terminated quartz crystals discovered in and around Herkimer county, New York and the Mohawk River Valley.
They are not a diamond, they are called a diamond because of their clarity and natural faceting - crystals possess double termination points and 18 total faces (six on each point, six around the center). Herkimer diamonds became popular when people starting discovering them in big quantities while cutting into the Mohawk River Valley dolomite in the late 18th century.
Measurements: 16 inches long. The Herkimer diamonds are slightly different sizes. Because these necklaces have natural stones there will be a variance in size and the amount of carbon in each stone. If you're not familiar with the term "salt and pepper", it is used to describe a stone with visible manganese.
