Black obsidian is frequently cut into a flint in the shape of an arrowhead. It is an excellent specimen for rock tumbling.

How is black obsidian made/formed?  Black obsidian is formed from magma.  It is an ingenuous rock.  You will note there appears to be a film outside the rock. When it is cut or broken, you will see the shiny interior.   It can also be polished and or tumbled. 

Obsidian is the stone of the world's gentle, sensitive, and softhearted people. Meditating with Obsidian is said to be able to take you on a journey that leads you to a place of an inner ‘Flooding of Light,’ illuminating the darker corners of unresolved past issues.
