Herkimer Diamond Dolomite Herkimer Matrix

This is a raw, uncut, beautiful Herkimer Diamond nestled in a Dolomite matrix.  Dolomite matrix is the host stone for Herkimer Diamonds.  As with most minerals, one knows they are in the area of Herkimers when dolomite matrix is spotted.  Herkimer Diamonds are only mined in Herkimer, New York.  The mining method is open pit.  Just like we mine for Arkansas quartz.  Fun fact, Herkimer diamonds are actually quartz.
