Self-healed refers to a quartz crystal that has broken from its place of formation through tectonic movement or extreme temperature changes that healed itself through movement and continued forming over the fractured section to fill the broken area of the quartz. A very interesting fact is that although the fractured area will show internally, there will be no separation on the outside of the crystal when you run your finger over the area. It is smooth.
