There are many Herkimer diamond mines in Herkimer, New York.  Herkimer's are not usually found when surface hunting.  As you can see in the image, they will grow on a host stone and must be carefully removed to protect the stone from chips and breaking.

Measures approximately 4 inches wide and 3.5 inches at its tallest.
