The Sodalite meaning derives from the stone's rich sodium content. It gained popularity as an ornamental stone in 1891 when deposits were found in Ontario, Canada. Because these deposits were discovered at the same time as a visit from the royal family in Canada, Sodalite is sometimes referred to as Princess Blue.
