Howlite, also known as Magnesite, is a calcium Borosilicate Hydroxide mineral that crystalizes in the form of masses, nodules, and occasional small prismatic crystals.

It is commonly found with a color scheme consisting of chalky white with black veins running throughout the stone. However, it can also be seen with brown, or it can even be colorless.

Howlite was first discovered in 1868, near the town Windsor, Nova Scotia. Henry How, a famous Canadian chemist and geologist, was alerted of an odd mineral that had occurred in a Gypsum mine. He investigated this, and it turned out to be a new mineral. This is how Howlite was discovered.
