The name "Opal" is from the Sanskrit Opal, which means jewel.  Opal is a beautiful specimen that carries positive energy and vibration.  It is also thought to be a stone of protection.  It can pick up your emotions and energy, magnify them, and then send them back to you.

Tiny pieces of fluorite give Morado opal its purple color. These slightly lower the hardness of the material and cause it to require care in cutting. Morado opal is a purple and white common opal with small amounts of silica from Mexico.  It is composed mainly of silica with small amounts of fluorite.  The purple color and fluorescence of the material are attributed to the fluorite.  Many specimens exhibit crazing shortly after mining.
