Hematite's structure is made of Fe2O3, which is the formula for the compound iron (III) oxide, a very important ore, and Oxygen.

The hardness of Hematite ranges from 5.5 to 6.5.

Crystal System

 Its crystal system is trigonal, and Hematite is always formed ingeniously or as a sedimentary deposit, meaning it is found in rocks and soil.

Metaphysical

The meaning of Hematite is grounding and protection.  The chakras associated with Hematite is the earth star and root chakra.  A very long time ago Hematite was used as a mirror, pigment, war paint, and to adorn tombs.  The bright blood-red pigment in Hematite comes from its incredibly high iron content.
